Martin Welch教授，英国剑桥大学生物化学部Welch实验室负责人，微生物学副教授。本科就读于英国牛津大学，博士毕业于以色列魏茨曼科学研究所，现为英国剑桥大学终身教授。其研究工作在众多高影响因子期刊上发表，包括Nature Structural Biology, Nature Biotechnology, Nature Protocols, PNAS, Lancet等。
科研领域简介
Dr.Martin’s research has focussed primarily on understanding better the molecular basis for pathogenicity in gram-negative bacteria – especially those which employ quorum sensing to control virulence. This work has led to the “coincidence model” for virulence, which posits that bacterial populations need to be not only “quorate” but also starving for optimal virulence factor production. More recently, the team has established a critical role for certain “metabolic nodes” in the control of virulence, with a particular emphasis on the role(s) played by carbon flux through the glyoxylate shunt in the opportunistic human pathogen, Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Martin will present the most recent findings to demonstrate how a better knowledge of this pathway can lead to new antimicrobial interventions.
